The 2007 National Amateur Retriever Championship kicked off with a banquet at Balmoral Community Hall in Balmoral, Manitoba.

The head table was piped in for the start of the evening. After the MC, Bob Chrystal, introduced everyone, the National Anthems of the United States of America and Canada were played. Dawne McKenzie proposed a toast to the Queen, followed by a toast to the Office of the President of the United States given by Corky Krollman. P.J. Fitzpatrick said grace before everyone enjoyed an excellent meal. The dinner was prepared by the Balmoral Community Club ladies.

Gerry Burmaster, President of the NRCC, gave his welcoming address. It was brought to everyone’s attention by Jim Ling, second vice that Gerry was retiring as president. Jim presented Gerry with his retirement pin. Purina rep , Tim Crone, and Eukanuba rep, Dianne Yaskowich were introduced and presented with National pins and thanked for their support and sponsorship. Winchester and Tri-Tronics were all recognized for their support of the National. Marg Murray, secretary of NRCC, assisted Gerry in presenting the judges, Art Roy, Jim Green and Phil MacMillan with their judges pins. Jim Green spoke on behalf of the judges wishing everyone well in the trial.

Colin McMichael , president of the host club, Manitoba Gun Dog Association, welcomed all competitors and guests. Marshal, Ron MacKenzie gave the marshal’s instructions and the fun began.

There were 53 dogs entered in the competition but one dog, dog # 27, FTCH AFTCH Mjolnir Daisy Mae owned/handled by Peter Martin had to be scratched. The starting dog, dog #49 FTCH AFTCH Dakota’s Quickdraw, owner/handler Bev Fowler was drawn by Norm Elder following the Calcutta.
