3rd Series – Triple
The 3rd Series was set up very quickly as the line from the preceding series was turned 180 degrees facing the south. The long center hen mallard (first bird down) is 240 yards from the line towards the south east and is thrown right to left. The line to the bird is down the hill, across land into a pond with the bird lying on the side of the levy. The gunners are retiring behind the levy. The second bird down is to the left of the center bird thrown left to right 185 yards from the line. The hen pheasant lands in a ditch where the gunners retire. The line to the bird is down the hill across the corner of a pond and on to the ditch. The hen mallard flyer, off to the right of the center bird is thrown right to left 155 yards from the line. The dogs go down the hill across another hill to the bird.

The first test dog, (LM) picked up all three birds and ran at 8:00 am. The second test dog (CF) also picked up all three birds cleanly. The first dog #20, FC AFC Meba’s Ms Chief was called to the line at 8:10 am. It is taking around 8 minutes per dog.
This series is definitely challenging. As of noon, 31 dogs have run-some very stellar work and others with handles. The left hand bird seems to be giving the dogs the most trouble. Eleven (11) dogs have handles, of which 3 are double handles.
The judges called it a day with the running of dog #3 at 4:20 pm. Out of the 69 dogs that have run, 28 have handled, 6 of the handles were double handles and there was 1 pickup. There are 14 dogs left to run in the morning starting at 7:00am with 1 test dog.
