How to Win the Charles Morgan Memorial Trophy:
Retriever News will award the Charles Morgan Memorial Trophy to the Derby dog that has accumulated the largest number of Derby points on either of the following basis:
(1) During the calendar year
or
(2) During a dog's lifetime if it became two years of age during that calendar year
Exception: If a dog wins the trophy under (1) above, it shall not be eligible to win it the next year under (2) if it is not yet two years old at the end of the calendar year in which it was the winner.
All Retriever Derby Stakes, including Specialty Trials, will carry points, provided they have 10 starters.
Retriever News recognizes a tie for a win for the Charles Morgan Memorial award program will be decided based on the total number of points per start credited to each dog. Tabulation will be made from the official record of wins, placements and points per start as published in the Retriever News.
Derby Points for the four placements are awarded as follows:
1st place (5 pts) – 2nd place (3 pts) – 3rd place (2 pts) – 4th place (1 pt)
