NEWS UPDATE FROM THE NATIONAL RETRIEVER BOARD OF DIRECTORS

September 15, 2020

Since our last news release in July, we have continued our planning towards the November 2020 National Retriever Open Championship in Giddings, Texas. 
 
Although none of us can accurately predict where the future of the COVID-19 situation will lead us, rest assured that we will take the necessary steps and consider all options to ensure that the event can be held safely. 
 
As of this date, the National board has voted to hold the 2020 National event. We will continue to keep you informed about any changes that are made as we grow closer to our event and please feel free to contact any of the Board Members with any questions, comments, and/or concerns. We are looking forward to seeing you in Texas!
 
In the meantime, keep your spirits up, good luck in the fall field trial season, and we ask that you stay safe and healthy.

Training Grounds:
The drawing for the next day’s training sites will be at 6:00 pm each night at the HQ hotel, Best Western. The first drawing will be Sunday, November 1st at 6:00 pm and will be for Monday November 2nd. 
A Training Grounds and Test Site Guide will be available online – coming in October.
*Please Note: If you would like a paper copy of the training sites, please print the digital copy. Printed training guides will not be provided.

Bitch Check:
Bitch check will be conducted on Friday, November 6, 2020 immediately following the National Retriever Club Annual Meeting.

Training Birds:
Training birds need to be ordered two weeks in advance of the first draw. Training birds will be available beginning Monday morning, Nov. 2nd. Specific location and time will be provided through Entry Express and Retriever News websites and Qualifier announcements at a later date. Please contact Fred Rohrer: 785-741-4621 

Scratch Policy:
Entry fees for the scratches will be refunded in full for a bitch in season prior to and during the running of the trial, appropriate veterinarian certificate for sick or injured dog or extenuating circumstances approved by the Field Trial Committee.

Running Order:
The draw will be conducted by Entry Express service and the first running dog will be determined at approximately 2:00 pm, during the annual meeting Friday, November 6th, the day before the event starts.

COVID COMPLIANCE NOTICE
All events at the National Retriever Championship will be subject to strict COVID compliance as mandated by the State of Texas and those of Lee County Texas as well as CDC guidelines and AKC best practices. Those guidelines will be made available to everyone who will be attending the event. Anyone entering the test sites will be subject to COVID screening upon entry and must be in compliance while on the grounds. Anyone attending this event will be doing so at their own risk. Anyone not following COVID guidelines while on the grounds will be asked to leave the grounds.

2020 NRC Qualifiers

Qualification Requirements: A 1st place carrying five Championship points plus two additional Championship points in Open, Limited, Special, or Restricted All-Age Stakes in AKC Member or Licensed Trials in the current qualification year (within the year preceding the National Championship Stake). Winners of the previous year's National Championship, current year's Canadian National, current year's National Amateur, and the current year's Canadian National Amateur Championship Stake are automatic qualifiers - but the last two named must be handled by an Amateur in the National.
