To qualify for the 2020 NRDC Championship, 3* or more Derby points are required, as tracked by Retriever News for the National Derby List. (5 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place, 2 points for 3rd place and 1 point for 4th place.) The qualification period is recorded as all Derby points earned while under age two, which qualify for the Retriever News National Derby List. Any dog under age two on the start date of the first series of the event with the requisite three points is therefore Qualified and may enter the event. Event entries verified by Retriever News will be managed by Entry Express.

NEWS FROM THE NATIONAL RETRIEVER DERBY CLUB

September 23, 2020

The National Retriever Derby Club will be hosting the 2020 National Derby Championship during the week of October 5th - 9th, 2020.
 
Due to the unprecedented reduction in field trials, there have been only 80 Derby stakes held in the entire country, where there would typically be 170 by this point in the year. Obviously, this reduced the events and resulting points available to all Derby dogs. Therefore, we have reduced the 2020 qualification requirements commensurate with the near fifty percent decrease in trials. Now you will only need THREE POINTS TO QUALIFY. 
 
As of this announcement, this brings the total qualified Derby dog count to just over 50 dogs. We have spoken directly to many of the Derby dog owners and we are equally excited to see all your Derby dogs in Sedalia. The event will be opened for entry on Entry Express as soon as we have the customary AKC event and premium approval.
 
As we plan, we wanted you to know that we will be administering and complying with Federal, State, Local and AKC Best Practices regarding COVID-19.
 
We are excited to announce the National Retriever Derby Club Championship for 2020 will proceed. We ask you to see the event premium and qualifier letter for additional details in the coming days! 
 
We can’t wait to see who the 2020 National Derby Champion will be!

Event Information: 
Scratch Policy:
After the close on September 28th, 2020 only bitches in season and injured dogs will receive a full refund provided a veterinary certificate is received with the notice of scratch to the event secretary.

Drawing:
The electronic draw will take place at 9/29/2020. 12:01 am Central Time and will be posted online available for viewing upon final approval by the National Retriever Derby Club.

Running Order:
The NRDC will select the starting dog at the general meeting. If the General Meeting is NOT held due to COVID-19 restrictions the starting number will be determined by the Dow Jones Method using the close of Friday October 2, 2020. The NRDC Championship will utilize a system of rotation as described in the events official catalog which will contain the running order as established by the NRDC Event Secretary.

Standard Rosette to those that finish and a trophy for the winner

Announcements:
The event policies currently provide for ten series and five days of competition. No paper premiums will be mailed to the qualifiers for the 2020 NDRC.
The Premium and Event Information can be viewed online and printed out from Entry Express. No handler may enter or run more than five dogs.
